Marquette Maritime Museum – Marquette Michigan Attractions

Marquette Maritime Museum is located in the old water-works building in Marquette and houses exhibits that pay tribute to Marquette’s fascinating maritime history.

Museum features include: a one-of-a-kind collection of lighthouse lenses, Marquette and Lake Superior Shipwrecks, an early US Coastguard historical display, and area lighthouses, including Stannard’s Rock, and Marquette Harbor Lighthouses.

An important part of the Maritime museum is the Silent Service Memorial in tribute to a Marquette native son who commanded submarines in the Navy during WWII. This brave, Naval officer was instrumental in conveying vital intelligence, warning of a Japanese attack which led to a US battle victory.

The Maritime Museum offers tours through the lighthouse and the surrounding grounds – a rewarding, educational experience that is unique to the area.
