Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan
Northern Michigan University (NMU) makes its home in Marquette and is known for providing top notch educational degrees in undergraduate through graduate-level programs. The University began as a teacher’s college and has grown to incorporate 52 educational facilities on site. Among them are: state-of-the-art science venues, art and design buildings, a university theater, an award-winning library, art galleries, and sports complexes, including the Superior Dome. Because of its excellent facilities, NMU is a cultural hub in the Marquette area, hosting world-class theater, art, and sporting events.
NMU has won awards for its innovations in technology and is one of the largest notebook computer campuses in the country. All full-time students receive a ThinkPad or iBook included with tuition, and the school is renowned for its extensive use of modern technology. A singularly well-rounded academic institution, NMU sponsors student enrichment programs and events such as: special film festivals, theater presentations, Fall Fest, and Winter Fest. The University is also one of only four Olympic training centers in the United States.
A great way to learn more about Northern Michigan University is to take advantage of a Campus Visit. You can arrange to meet with a professor in your area of interest and learn about course offerings as well as career goals that are supported by the college. You can also tour the scenic NMU campus with a student guide and get a feel for Northern community life by visiting a residence hall, walk through academic buildings, visit the library, and see the Superior Dome. During your initial tour of the campus at NMU you’ll have an opportunity to find out about clubs, student life, special interest groups, and sample the fare at one of the cafes. If you mention “ski free” when you arrange your visit, you will receive a ski or snowboard pass to nearby Marquette Mountain, as well as receive a 50% off rate at participating lodging.
Another introductory program of interest is Wildcat Weekend. These are two, pre-scheduled, annually-held weekends for students as well their family members and guests who have already been accepted at Northern or who are strongly interested in the school. At the weekend, you’ll receive a campus tour, enjoy lunch at one of the eating establishments, have a cup of coffee at the Starbucks on NMU grounds, attend an academic experience, meet students, faculty and staff of the school, and learn more about Marquette, its culture, and community. The weekend’s activities include a special outing to beautiful Presque Isle Park, a dinner at one of Marquette’s restaurants, and a visit into downtown Marquette.
With over 9,000 students and hundreds of degree programs, Northern Michigan University is both a premier academic institution as well as a beautiful place to live and learn.
